National Institute of Livestock and Grassland Science
Roles and research directions
The mission of the National Institute of Livestock and Grassland Science (NILGS) is to contribute to increasing the production of safe and high-quality animal products and improving the self-sufficiency rate of feed by utilizing land resources effectively. To achieve these goals, the NILGS promotes technical developments that integrate studies on grassland, animal feed production, livestock production and animal waste treatment and reuse.
In 2006, we started our research projects to achieve the second mid-term research programs(FY2006 to FY2010)authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with emphasis on technical developments in the four areas described below.
- Technical development of livestock production system based on domestic feed.
- Development of techniques and their systematization for the establishment of an environmentally conscious livestock industry.
- Clarification of qualitative characteristics and development of evaluation techniques concerning high-quality animal products.
- Innovative research to make a further contribution to the future of the livestock industry.
---- Through our research, we aim to develop technologies that benefit both preset and future livestock production, support our diet, and finally, contribute to national land through development of the livestock industry.
